Breaking Barriers for People with Psoriasis
WSLHD celebrated World Psoriasis Day (29th October 2016) by hosting an educational session for staff and community members.
An expert panel included, the head of Westmead Hospital’s Dermatology department, Associate Professor Pablo Fernandez-Penas, Rheumatology consultant, Professor Nicholas Manolios, Clinical Psychologist, Shezi Yousaf and Psoriasis Case Manager, Shabnam Habibvand. The panel informed the audience about Psoriasis, the impact of the disease on patient’s quality of life, the current treatment options and also the support that is available for the people with the disease. Often psoriasis is associated with other co-morbidities, requiring further assessment and management from various health care professionals to optimise the patient. At the event, the panel answered a wide range of questions relating to psoriasis including current research.
A special thanks to a dermatology patient, who shared with us her touching and powerful story. She talked us through her journey living with psoriasis. Dermatology department also acknowledges ongoing commitment and support from Novartis, AbbVie, Janssen and Celgene.
