One of the cornerstones of the Centre for Translation Skin Research is our passion for dermatological teaching at all stages of medical education, and across multiple disciplines.
We have partnered with the University of Sydney with numerous programs this year, including:
· The Dermatology Workshop run yearly at the University of Sydney Westmead Clinical School for medical and nursing students
· The Westmead Dermatology Prize, a monthly quiz available to Stage 3 students at the University of Sydney.
· The Unit of Study DERM 5001 “Essential Dermatology” for Graduate Diplomas, Graduate Certificates and Masters at the University of Sydney
This year, the Dermatology Workshop was fun filled and educational day, widely enjoyed by the University of Sydney Westmead Clinical school medical and nursing students. Multiple sessions throughout the day taught:
· Skin 101 – why the skin is so important
· The Basics of Dermoscopy – pattern recognition of skin lesions
· Skin Culture and Pathology
· Dermatology Surgical Skills – biopsies and excisions
The Dermatology Prize is open to Stage 3 students in the Westmead Clinical School. Eligible students are required to have perfect attendance during their Dermatology rotation, with participation in a range of medical and surgical clinics. The winner is chosen from those with the highest cumulative score for the monthly quiz is sent to students on the diagnosis and management of a variety of common dermatology conditions. This year, our winner is Mr Jason Luong. Congratulations!
We look forward to continuing to increase dermatology knowledge in those in the medical field, and the nurture and recognize those with a talent in dermatology. Please stay tuned for our future education events in 2020!
