Prof Pablo Fernandez-Peñas has participated in the Australasian Melanoma Conference 2018 at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre with 2 talks, one about the cutaneous effects of anti-melanoma therapies and another on the efficacy and side effects of hedgehog inhibitors in basal cell carcinoma. These are exciting time for Oncodermatology, with new therapies for important skin cancers: Melanoma, Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SCC), Basal Cell Carcinoma (BCC), and Merkel Cell Carcinoma (MCC). Although the main focus of the conference was Melanoma, one session was dedicated to these other skin cancers. Immunotherapies were at the core of most talks including SCC and MCC. Pablo shared the experience of the Department of Dermatology at Westmead Hospital and the Centre for Translational Skin Research in the management of skin cancer patients. He presented data from our recent papers about the cutaneous side effects of immunotherapies.
