This year, the Australasian College of Dermatologists held their 51st Annual Scientific Meeting at the Gold Coast Convection and Exhibition Centre (GCCEC), Queensland from Saturday 19 May to Tuesday 22 May 2018.
Members of the Center for Translational Skin Research were invited to present their research and experiences for a variety of topics. Professor Fernandez-Penas chaired a session on hospitalist dermatology, which presented the research of multiple members:
· Dr Germana Consuegra and Dr Jillian Wells spoke on primary cutaneous CD30+ lymphoproliferative disorders, with an update and review of our experiences in Westmead Hospital.
· Dr Cathy Zhao spoke on a clinical update on the cutaneous toxicities from epidermal growth factor receptor inhibitors.
· Professor Fernandez-Penas spoke on research collaborations and the future directions of our hospitalist dermatology group.
Other talks by members include:
· Professor Fernandez-Penas’ presentation on the proteonomic changes from Actinic Keratosis to Squamous Cell Carcinoma.
· Dr Rose Liu’s talk on the hedgehog inhibitors vismodegib and sonedegib for the treatment of advanced basal cell carcinomas.
Multiple poster presentations from Centre members were also displayed during the meeting – from social media and how this shapes tanning attitudes and behaviors, to lichenoid graft versus host disease triggered by pembrolizumab.
Lastly, we would like to congratulate Dr Cathy Zhao for winning the Eileen Collins Memorial Prize for the best paper or poster presentation by a New South Wales dermatology registrar. She won this prize for her paper on anti-programmed cell-death-1 associated bullous disorders, a systemic review of the literature, classification, and management update, a research project completed as a part of the Centre for Translational Skin Research.
