The 8th Annual Crown Princess Mary Cancer Centre Symposium was held in Sydney today. This event was attended by clinical and basic cancer researchers from across Australia. Our PhD student Ms Rachel Teh and honours student Mr Steven Jabbour were two of the many researchers who presented their recent works on various cancers. Rachel spoke about the application of mass spectrometry-based proteomics for the identification of early detection biomarkers in early melanoma lesions using archival biopsy samples. Steven, on the other hand, shared his findings on the identification of discriminatory protein biomarkers in non-melanoma skin cancers using a novel non-invasive sample collection technique called tape-stripping coupled with mass spectrometry. Both works were received very well by the audience and created some useful discussion amongst the researchers. Keep an eye on this blog for updates on researches carried out at the CTSR.
