OncoDermatology

Since 2010, the Advanced Melanoma Clinic in our department has been receiving referrals from the Crown Princess Mary Cancer Centre. We review patients on melanoma trials using single BRAF, MEK inhibitors or the combination of both drugs. Patients are followed up throughout their treatment. The assessments included: full skin examination, dermoscopy and full body photography. Over the last 4 years we have seen more than 200 patients on these medications and reported the diagnosis of new clinical entities, side effects and proposed treatments to some of the side effect of these drugs in National and International Journals.
This year after the introduction of new immunotherapies not only for metastatic melanoma but also for other carcinomas, we have increased the number of patients visiting our clinic. The name of OncoDermatology Clinic was introduced and we continue seeing patients on MAP kinase inhibitors and facing the new challenges of these novel immunotherapies.
Our major aim in the Clinic is to make our patients comfortable with their own skin, try to recognise, understand and minimise any side effects without reducing the dose of the melanoma drugs, improve techniques on regular day skin care, advice on sun protection and provide treatments according to each specific case.
