Australia has the highest melanoma incidence in the world with certain subpopulations known to be at extreme risk. Early detection of primary melanoma of the skin is critical in reducing associated mortality. In the department of Dermatology Westmead Hospital we have recently started a study in collaboration with RPA Hospital and the Melanoma Institute of Australia to recruit people that are at high risk of developing melanoma. In this study we will monitor patients over a 4-year period using standardised diagnostic methods. These methods include the use of total body photography and digital dermoscopy, which will aid in detecting melanomas, if they occur. If you have personal history of melanoma or a strong family history of melanoma, you may be eligible for this study. Patients can be referred to this clinic by any doctor. If you want more info you can email us.
